After discovering and trying Japanese cosmetics for the first time, I went back to buying and using more products I was eager to try, along with other low-cost European brands that left me with a bittersweet taste, as I wrote on my Instagram. Rediscovering and discovering new skincare brands, I've had more joy than sorrow in this final round of March.

Hydra Therapy micellar water, by REVUELE.

It has become an indispensable skincare product, a necessary toiletry staple, managing to position itself as one of my favorite micellar waters, after Pretty Skin's micellar water and Garnier's micellar water for sensitive skin (the blue one). What I like most about this micellar water is how it cleanses and leaves the skin.

Among its ingredients are hyaluronic acid and Hydromanil, whose main function is to provide long-lasting hydration and conditioning, making it the ideal product for sensitive, dry or dehydrated skin in particular, although it can be used on any skin type.

When you soak the product in the cotton pad and begin cleansing your skin, you can notice how it immediately the product starts to lift makeup and skin impurities. Once the skin starts to feel clean, the cotton pad begins to glide like butter over the skin, removing the latest traces of impurities and makeup, leaving the skin clean, decongested, luminous, hydrated, and full of life.

Houile Démaq’ a rinser (cleansing oil), by EVOLUDERM.

I absolutely miss the previous version, why? Because the current version is somewhat disappointing for my personal taste. As I said on my Instagram account, sometimes, innovation is welcomed with open arms, and other times, it's only accepted by a portion of the target audience, and that's my case with this cleansing oil.

The first version use to melt any type of makeup, emulsifying beautifully, but the new version seems like a failed attempt to combine a cleansing oil with a facial cleansing gel (when emulsifying with water), ruining the original formula without any reason. From a powerful light formula that can dissolve even depilatory wax without any effort, to a thicker formula that have nothing to do with the original formula. So, what used to be one of my favorites low-cost skincare products, has ended up being another product that works, and does its job, nothing revolutionary or innovative to discover or try.

Gokujyun Hatomugi pore cleansing face wash, by HADA LABO.

Very good water-based facial cleanser, with a slightly dense and rich foam that deeply cleanses the skin without drying it out or irritating the eye area. Despite being created to help regulate the skin's sebum production, it doesn't dry out the skin, gently removing impurities from the skin, penetrating directly into the pores, cleansing them deeply.

It's a good second step daily cleansing routine that leaves skin soft and smooth, and ready for the next step in your daily routine: facial toner.

Dokudami natural skin lotion, by CHINOSIO.

I always end up loving most of Japanese and Korean facial toners, but this one is completely different, why? Because it goes beyond conditioning and rebalancing the skin, becoming an effective treatment itself that helps to eliminate dark spots, improving skin tone, and increasing skin luminosity. So after its continued use, the skin begins to look renewed and more even-toned.

Although its formula is light and easily absorbed by the skin, it has an interesting list of ingredients, with Dokudami, Licorice extract, and Rose Water as its main ingredients.

Something to keep in mind is that this face toner contains two different types of parabens: Ethylparaben and Methylparaben, as preservatives. I'm aware that these skincare ingredients may be controversial, however, it is also true that they have been used safely for years in the skincare industry. In my particular case, I have sensitive combination-oily skin, and I haven't had any problems with the daily use of this face toner. In fact, it has helped me to condition and unify my skin tone, combating effectively my skin blemishes.

As I always say, the secret lies in the product's formulation. Not everyone knows how to find the perfect recipe, even if you give them all the ingredients and explain step by step how to prepare the secret potion.

Like happens with many people, my hair also goes through various stages, from a natural Afro (that is somewhat difficult to tame), to different periods of time when I prefer to give my hair a pause and enjoy African braids.

Even if now I'm in a non-manipulation or in a very low-manipulation hairstyle stage, using various types of braids since a month ago, three to four months ago I decided to retexturize my 4C Afro hair to make my daily routine easier during those periods where I decide to not wear braids or extensions.

IMPORTANT!
I love my natural hair, without any chemical treatments, and I also love it with treatments, and some chemical treatments that help me have more manageable hair. My decision to relax my hair has nothing to do with feeling ashamed about having a 4C Afro hair, but rather for comfort, and also for a change of style.

By the way, the products mentioned here can also be used on natural Afro hair, not being specific or exclusive for Afro hair that has undergone a chemical process.

REMEMBER: natural Afro hair is gorgeous, and it's a unique hair type, with its own unique characteristics, just like straight, wavy, or curly Caucasian, Latin, Arab, or Asian hair; therefore, it requires specific care beyond washing and masking.

Nutrition and repair shampoo, by OBLEPIKHA SIBERICA PROFESSIONAL.

I previously had the opportunity to try a shampoo from the same line, but designed for normal to dry hair, and I remember how I loved how soft and manageable it used to left my hair, so I decided to continue testing other products from the same line. But, instead of how manageable leave my hair, what really caught my attention was how gentle it was on my hair, not leaving it dry or sticky after rinse it.  So, after having gone through a chemical process, I needed a more nourishing and repairing hair care routine starting with the washing routine.

What strikes me most about Oblepinkha Siberica Professional products is that most of their products are created from natural and organic ingredients, having some of them a completely vegan formula. In particular, this shampoo, in contrast to the one indicated for normal to dry hair, seals the hair surface and helps to tame fuzz. On the other hand, I could notice that it is more enveloping, with a denser foam that pampers the hair at the same time it cleanses it, leaving the hair softer and shinier.

Deep treatment keratin hair mask, by KATIVA.

As I said on Instagram, this hair mask has changed my life. I don't know the magic behind this product yet, but this is the second time I've used it, and my opinion remains the same: INCREDIBLE. Considering the ever-growing cosmetics market, and the variety of existing products I haven't had the chance to try yet, it's impossible for me to categorize this hair mask as a favorite, or even the best, but I can categorize it as one of the best I've tried so far, making it one of my favorites.

It leaves hair nourished, soft, shinier, and helps prevent hair breakage. I have to confess that I was previously afraid of using products with keratin because I had heard very unpleasant experiences, but after trying Syoss and Kativa products, I realized that it has to do with the quality of the formula, because keratin itself is a beneficial ingredient for hair, and used properly, it doesn't have to damage the hair.

100% natural argan oil, by YARI HAIR & COSMETICS.

This product was my first time trying the famous argan oil, a highly recommended oil to condition hair (The famous Moroccan gold oil), and it was a highly disappointing experience. First, it's not 100% pure, natural argan oil, but rather a blend of sweet almond oil, which is the first ingredient on the list. Second, it's a blend that, in my case, tangles my hair and doesn't provide any benefits (0% nourishment).

Finally, in terms of smell and texture, it seems most like cooking oil, like the oil used in restaurants to fry food, and not like a mixture of natural cold-pressed oils

One of the most annoying things is when, after having been taking care of your nails for a long time, they suddenly start to split or chip, just when they were perfectly long and well-groomed, with an attractive diva length.

By the way, sometimes we also find ourselves with the phenomenon of pause or “detoxification” of artificial nails, by our own decision or medical necessity, where once we are accustomed to having beautiful long artificial nails, with multiple shapes, colors, and designs, we suddenly see ourselves with short nails, or with nails that are somewhat long and weak, producing us a cerebral shock, in which we are even ashamed to have our hands seen, because we feel that we are missing something, like a part of our identity has just disappeared, and we have to start from zero.

Whatever the situation, and if you feel identified, continue reading, because this blog post interests you!

Growth and care of natural nails.

When it comes to nail growth, the most important thing is to be patient and take constant care of them. From the diet, where essential nutrients play an essential role, such as vitamins C and E, as well as fatty acids, and minerals such as Zinc and Calcium, and even probiotics, can help a lot from within. The ideal is to have a varied and complete diet, but we can complete it with nutritional supplements, which can help us improve, among other things, the health of our nails.

On the other hand, weekly manicures and pedicures are mandatory! Removing the excess cuticle, trim, and file, along with the use of nail oils, and a good nail treatment such as a nail hardener, or an anti-chip treatment.

Long and short natural nails.

If we all know something, it is how beautiful well-maintained natural nails can be, for which everyone asks what the secret of their growth and maintenance is, and many others look on with envy. They are the reason for the invention of artificial nails, because when a nail breaks, we have to replace it with another, we have to disguise it until it blooms again, so on top of it we put a false nail to protect it until it is completely bloomed, and beautiful like the others.

Whether you decide to wear them long or short, remember that you can style them however you like, while achieving your personal goal. From nude styles, to the most colorful nails that human eyes have ever seen, everything is possible with imagination and nail polish. But if you lack imagination, there exist real nail gurus on social media who never cease to surprise me, and what surprises me most is that on many occasions, they are not even nail technicians, they are simply amateurs who love the world of nail care and decoration.

Humbly, at the moment, this is not my case, but luckily, it is something that can be learned.

Your natural nails are pretty too, so enjoy them.

Artificial nails are beautiful, and the work of nail technicians is undeniable, because they make a living from it, and they do spectacular work, which makes us rethink many things related to our skills taking care of our natural nails, but remember, your natural nails are also beautiful, they just need proper care. If you don't know where to start, on social media and the internet in general, there are professionals who, through content creation, help other people for free.

Remember: nobody is born learned, everything is a process where even the most expert nail technician does not stop learning to continue offering the best possible services to their clients.

Among my favorite content creators in the nail industry are: Simply Nailogical, Alexandra Teleki, and Nail Career Education.

One of the most famous countries on Asia is Japan, along with China and Korea. Its culture, landscapes, gastronomy, and recently its beauty products, and tools. Thanks to content creators, Japanese skincare products have been acquiring more fame, allowing people from different countries to discover new brands that go beyond Shiseido, Bioré, or Kanebo.

Even if I have always loved Asian countries, curious about its culture, their beauty products were something I didn’t pay attention to, until I started consuming the social media content of various Japanese beauty and fashion influencers like, Tina Tanaka Harris and Cozue Ninomiya; or those from other countries who went to live in Japan like  Anshin Doyle (Spanish content creator); and just like that, in an instant, my whole world changed, and I began to open myself up to Japanese beauty products, specially Japanese skincare products, discovering how completely different are their skincare routine and products from Korean and Chinese ones.

SANA Soy Milk Moisturizing Face Wash, by NAMERAKA HONPO.

I think that, after The Saem cleansing foams (Natural Condition line), this is the best facial cleanser I have currently tried. It has a very rich formula, which is also emollient, and eliminates impurities without drying out the skin. Various brands on the market indeed have products with the same concept, with innovative and interesting formulas, such as CeraVe, but until now, I have never tried a formula that is so soft, emollient, and rich, as well as effective.

Among its ingredients are: Lauric acid, Soy milk isoflavone, Soy milk fermentation liquid, Ceramide NG, Soybean protein, Soy seed extract, Phytosterols, and Hydrogenated lecithin.

NATURIE Hatomugi Skin Conditioning, by KUMANO COSME.

Now I understand why it is such a famous product in Japan, being the first skincare product I discovered from the brand. It has a light formula, which on the one hand is light and easily absorbed by the skin like a toner, and on the other hand, hydrates and conditions the skin like an essence.

It is truly incredible how such a light product can provide such an amount of hydration in a single step, awakening the skin and preparing it for the next step.

Among its ingredients are: Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-Yuen Seed Extract, and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate.

NATURIE Hatomugi Cleansing Oil, by KUMANO COSME.

Emollient cleansing oil, which effectively removes impurities and makeup, with an enveloping texture on the skin. It has a slightly rich formula, which makes the cleaning process from the beginning (when it comes in contact with the skin) to the end (when emulsifying the product with water), highly pleasant. It does not dry out the skin and also eliminates blackheads (even those on the tip of the nose).

Among its ingredients are: Glycerine, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-Yuen Seed Extract (0,01%), Soluble Collagen, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, and Squalane.

UV Perfect Gel Face moisturizer 50+ PA++++, by HADA LABO.

Very moisturizing, with a light texture, which does not leave white residue on the skin, making it compatible with all skin tones, even the darkest (black skin). Although highly moisturizing and non-greasy, I do not recommend applying it to the eyes, or near the eyes, especially if they are highly sensitive, as it can be irritating (causes itching).

Grace One All-in-one Deep Perfect Repair Gel Cream EX, by KOSÉ.

This moisturizer creates an enveloping layer on the skin, which keeps the skin hydrated all night. However, although its texture may initially be scary due to its density, it blends perfectly with the skin, protecting it from external aggressions. It deeply moisturizes the skin, nourishing it, and progressively repairing it, however, I cannot speak about its effect on wrinkles, since, luckily, I do not have wrinkles.

Among its ingredients are: Hydrogenated Lecithin, Astaxanthin, Canina Fruit Oil, Glycosyl Trehalose, Succinoyl Atelocollagen, Pomegranate Peel Extract, Shea Butter, Ascorbyl Dipalmitate, Citricoliara Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Hyaluronic Acid Na, Haematococcus Pluvialis Extract, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Water-Soluble Collagen, and Squalane.

Are artificial nails safe? Acrylic, Gel, or Poly-gel? Are artificial nails painful? Does artificial nails damage natural nails? What is the best material for artificial nails? Do artificial nails cause allergies? I’m here to share with you my personal experience wearing them for two weeks. If you were thinking about getting artificial nails, but you weren't sure about the type of nails to get because of the type of material, this is the blog post you were looking for.

Those of us who like to have beautiful nails, whether natural or artificial, need to have that moment throughout the week when we dedicate ourselves exclusively to our personal care: recharging our batteries, to face the following week, and feel good about ourselves. However, sometimes, everything gets complicated, and we don't have enough time; or we simply don't have certain skills developed, and we need help; or we simply want a change of look, to see us better, enjoying something different.

And this is where artificial nails appear, where each person has their reasons for doing them, or wanting to get them done, and therefore, always surrounded by so many prejudices and questions: …and I was one of those people who looked at them from afar, not sure of trying them, or not. However, do I regret having them done? The short answer is: NO. I have really enjoyed them, with their multiple designs, colors, and lengths.

On the other hand, it must be noted that what is truly important, above the material, is a good-specialized nail technician, who does his/her job well, and perfectly guides his/her clients, offering them the best possible service: ALWAYS.

All starts with good care of the natural nail, where the artificial nail will be sculpted with the chosen or recommended materials. On the other hand, the person who wants to have artificial nails need to be aware that, like natural nails, artificial nails require care and maintenance, otherwise the natural nail will become infected.

ACRYLIC NAILS.

Made from the combination of liquid monomer and acrylic polymer, the mixture is brushed on top of a nail extension, which is glued to the natural nail, giving them an increased length, and a more defined shape.

More information: HERE!

No UV light is needed for the material to become solid, but since it dries quickly, the manicurist must master the technique perfectly to be able to work quickly. Once the mixture is dry, it becomes very difficult to correct possible errors, complicating the entire process of acrylic nails construction and definition.

GEL NAILS (SOFT GEL).

They are done with porous acetone-shakable gel, that needs to be light cured, and can be soaked off with acetone (like acrylic). There exist different types of soft-gel products:

  • Full coverage extensions system.
  • Builder-in-a-bottle products.
  • Soft potted gel nail system.
  • Good OL’gel polish like Shellac or Gelish.

For more information: HERE.

POLY-GEL NAILS.

A mixture of acrylic powder and clear gel, with a more solid consistency, that makes it more malleable, and easy to work with. This hybrid system offers the durability of acrylic, and the flexibility of the soft-gel. It cames in toothpaste-like tubes, and it is worked from the base of the nail, in small balls, spreading the material to the end of the nail with a brush.

This all in one formula does not require any mixing of powders or liquids, not drying until it is cured under the LED or UV lamp, this allows the nail technicians to take their time shaping the artificial nail to the perfection.

  • Is odor-free.
  •  It does not contain hash chemicals.
  •  Is available in a wide range of colors and finishes.
  •  It can be applied over natural nails, tips, or nail extensions.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

Overall, I enjoyed the different types of materials as the magic is in the hands of the artist – the nail technician. With each of the materials I obtained very good results, although it is true that the difference is noticeable from one material to another, with the gel nails being the thickest I have ever worn.

On the other hand, regarding the curing process of gel nails and poly-gel nails, the less painful were the poly-gel nails, and personally, I think that it is a quite important point if you are a person sensitive to pain, since the sensation of feeling how the material solidifies on your natural nail can be quite uncomfortable, even painful.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed the experience of having done different systems of artificial nails, but I have to confess that my favorite was the poly-gel ones, for the material, finish, quality, and versatility. They were more lightweight, durable, with a more long-term solid finish.

As for the natural nail, I can confirm that, if artificial nails are done by a good professional, and are properly cared, they do not harm the natural nail. Although personally, I prefer to let my nails "breathe" every 3 or 4 months, before putting them back on.

Finally, although it is not my case, it is true that there are people who have had allergies to the materials with which artificial nails are made, however, these are particular cases, and therefore it is always recommended, in case of doubt, to consult with professionals, especially if you have very weak natural nails.
